It was another successful and enjoyable show for the club. We returned to the King Alfred School in Burnham on Sea / Highbridge. For the club members this was a two-day effort, set up on Friday with actual show on Saturday.

We had the use of many classrooms as well as the main hall, which was used to show 3 large 0 gauge layouts. The classrooms were used mainly for the smaller Dublo gauge layouts. The foyer was available for the many dealers to display a range of goodies to tempt visitors to the show to part with their hard earned cash. There was also a Bring and Buy table for owners to dispose of unwanted previously cherished items.

In the main hall, Andrew Hurley was running three tracks featuring immaculate Hornby locomotives and rolling stock, just like out of a new box. Chris Batten and his somewhat depleted merry men put on his large O gauge clockwork layout featuring this time an eclectic mixture of various makes, mostly Hornby, but some not normally seen. Also there was a Meccano cable car running, which used redundant Hornby Pullman cars suitably modified as the gondolas. Other Meccano items were also on display. Rebecca put on her usual three track layout featuring her Princess Elizabeth locomotive.

Roy Sinclair was there as usual with something a bit different.
This time a display of Marx locomotives and stock with a military theme.

Also in the hall was Andy Cope’s Dublo layout, which included a large terminal building with a multi span plastic canopy.

Our chairman Steve Sands bought along his module Dublo 3 rail, which seems to get bigger each year. Squeezed in was the Backan Ford Tramway operated by two youngsters using digital hand controllers, with dad in attendance to sort out things when the trams went the wrong way. This layout was very realistic especially with the overhead catenary.

Another room had the club’s newly donated 2 rail layout being refurbished. This was alongside the existing club’s 2 rail layout.

The smallest layout was a Lone Star layout the forerunner of N gauge trains. This was an electric layout, not the usual push along version normally seen. Well done Roger! Click for a larger picture

The final room had the club’s 3 rail layout alongside Martin Kilford’s British 2 rail layout.

Finally we must applaud the Ring Master, Mike Barton, who was always at the school to open and close it on both days and became an expert on trouble shooting.
